How to start your preparation for Civil Services Examination

Hi Guys!!!

Welcome back to our new article. In this article, I'll tell you how to start your preparation for Civil Services Examination.

Before reading this article read please, go through my previous articles for getting to know what is
eligibility criteria and syllabus(PDF).

If you have already read my previous articles then you might have got some idea about the eligibility criteria and syllabus. Now it is time to do some research work (better to do it by yourself, do not depend on others).

This research phase may take one or two weeks but don’t skip because this is the base in which you are going to start your preparation so make it strong.

What to do in this phase?

Read toppers’ blogs, watched few videos of toppers, check Previous Year Question Papers, attended 2–3 open sessions (if possible) and write your observations in a note.

During this phase, you have to choose the best optional subject that suits your interest and grab you more marks in mains. So, choose it wisely.

There are lot of materials available in the Market and Internet so make a booklist and follow it sacredly. You have to read all your books at least 3-5 times before your first attempt. Just believe in reading fewer books for more number of times till you understand between the lines. (Here is My BookList)

After you are done with your booklist now it is time to make a schedule and timetable.

If one starts his/her preparation in July then his/her schedule should be like this:

July
Research work + Booklist + Timetable + Start Reading Newspaper
August to November
Complete one reading of GS + Optional + Start writing answers (atleast one question a day)
December to January
Revision & Answer Writing (Full Length Tests)
February

March to May

If you want to make a timetable, your timetable may look like this:
